The EVO Slim for West Coast Drive 16.37:1 Ratio is a high-performance, lightweight gearbox designed for competition robots, providing a robust solution for drive trains. This gearbox is part of the EVO Slim line, which shares several components with the EVO Shifter, including weight-relieving features and the use of all-steel gears and aluminum plates. It is specifically configured to accept two NEO or CIM motors as input, although motors are not included with the gearbox.
The gearbox is shipped in kit form, requiring assembly, and includes the am-0801a Toughbox® Long Hex Output Shaft as standard. However, users have the option to replace this with any other Toughbox® Output Shaft, which is available separately. The EVO Slim is compatible with the AndyMark West Coast Drive Chassis, making it a versatile choice for various robotic applications.
For those utilizing the NEO motor, a 3-ton arbor press is necessary to install the included 15 Tooth 32DP pinion gear due to its interference fit. The procedure for this installation has been rigorously tested to ensure a factor of safety of 3.5. When using a CIM motor, the pinion may either be a slip fit or a press fit, depending on manufacturing tolerances. In both cases, the application of red Loctite 271 is recommended to secure the pinion, which has been tested to a factor of safety of 4 when allowed to cure for 24 hours.
The EVO Slim for CIM is compatible with either the E4T Optical Encoder Kit or the SRX Mag Encoder, although a 3D printed mount plate is required for installation. The SRX Magnetic Encoder Mounting Hardware Kit is also necessary when using the SRX Mag Encoder. Future iterations will include appropriate holes in the motor plates to accommodate the Encoder Mount Pad.
