The Evil Mad Scientist Pen Clip Rotation Stage is an advanced adapter designed to enhance the versatility of pen plotters such as NextDraw and AxiDraw. This device allows for the mounting of writing instruments at arbitrary angles, with fine-tuning capabilities over a 90-degree range and a precision of 1 degree. While not essential for general writing and drawing, it proves invaluable for precision applications, particularly when the plotter is employed as a general-purpose XY motion control stage. Additionally, it is beneficial for adjusting the angle of italic or chisel-tip pens when used with the Italic pen adapter.
The rotation stage can be attached to the front face of the NextDraw or AxiDraw in either a vertical orientation or at a 45-degree angle from vertical. These configurations, combined with the 90-degree adjustment range, enable adjustments between vertical and horizontal or between vertical and ±45 degrees from vertical. Adjustments are facilitated by two small thumbscrews and an engraved bezel, ensuring precise and secure angle settings.
