The DFRobot Gravity: Tipping Bucket Rainfall Sensor - I2C & UART is a reliable and sophisticated instrument designed for accurate measurement of rainfall. This device operates on the principle of tipping bucket rainfall, offering users the ability to measure rainfall in millimeters and monitor system operating time.

The sensor is designed with a hollow bottom, a feature that allows for automatic drainage of rainwater. This design enhances the stability and sensitivity of the device. The sensor supports I2C and UART data outputs, ensuring compatibility with a range of devices including micro:bit, Arduino, ESP32, and Raspberry Pi.

The Tipping Bucket Rainfall Sensor is integrated with the user-friendly Gravity interface and comes with ready-to-use libraries. This makes it an ideal choice for setting up a rain monitoring system. The sensor is capable of providing high-quality rainfall data, making it suitable for use in weather stations, environmental monitoring stations, and smart farms.

The tipping bucket rainfall sensor is a widely used device in meteorological observations. It comprises a collection container and a measuring mechanism. During rainfall, water enters the collection container via the top inlet and flows into the tipping bucket through a funnel. When a certain volume of water accumulates, the tipping bucket tips over, generating a pulse signal with each tip. The number of pulse signals is recorded, enabling the controller to calculate the amount of rainfall.

The sensor operates at a working voltage of 3 to 5.5 V DC and a working current of less than 3 mA. It has a resolution of 0.28 mm and can function in temperatures ranging from -40 to 85 °C.
