The Evil Mad Scientist Coreless Servo Upgrade Kit for AxiDraw enhances the performance of AxiDraw V3 and SE family machines by replacing the standard pen-lift servo motor with a superior K-power DMC809 digital coreless servo motor. This motor features a full metal gear train, dual ball bearings, and a machined aluminum case, ensuring a quieter, stronger, and longer-lasting operation. The upgrade includes a custom aluminum lift arm with a rolling wheel and a new mounting bracket for secure attachment.
This upgrade offers several advantages over the original Tower Pro SG-90 motor. It operates with significantly less noise, has a longer lifespan, and provides greater lifting capacity, allowing it to handle heavier pens. Additionally, it exhibits less vibration, particularly at lower speeds, and presents a more professional appearance due to its all-metal construction. The rolling wheel on the aluminum lift arm reduces friction and wear, contributing to its durability.
However, the upgrade does come with some drawbacks. It is heavier, which may slightly increase "tuning-fork" ringing at higher speeds, and it is more expensive. Installation is more complex and requires specific tools, which are not included in the kit. Compatibility with AxiDraw machines should be verified by examining the bracket where the existing pen-lift servo motor is mounted.
Note: Ensure proper installation to avoid potential mechanical issues.
