Description
Low-cost, precise and non-contact distance measurement
Perform measurements between moving or stationary objects
Simple pulse in/pulse out communication
RoHS Compliant
The Parallax PING Ultrasonic Sensor provides a low-cost, precise and non-contact distance measurement. This sensor is perfect for applications that require you to perform measurements between moving or stationary objects. Apart from the robotics applications it is also very popular in security systems or as an infrared replacement. The activity status LED and the economic use of 1 I/O pin makes it an efficient and effective product.
The Ping sensor measures distance using sonar; an ultrasonic (well above human hearing range) pulse is transmitted from the unit and distance-to-target is determined by measuring the time required for the echo return. Output from the Ping sensor is a variable-width pulse that corresponds to the distance to the target. It easily interface with BASIC Stamp and Javelin Stamp microcontrollers. A single shared I/O pin is use to trigger the Ping sensor and listen for the echo return pulse. And the intelligent trigger hold-off allows the PING)))T to work with the BS1. An onboard three-pin header allows the PING))) to be plugged into a solderless breadboard ( for example, on a Boe-Bot ), and to be connected to its host through a standard three-pin servo extension cable.
Features:
Provides precise, non-contact distance measurements within a 2 cm to 3 m range
Simple pulse in/pulse out communication
Burst indicator LED shows measurement in progress
20 mA power consumption
Narrow acceptance angle
3-pin header makes it easy to connect using a servo extension cable, no soldering required

100% Accurate
I have this and few other cheap ultrasonic sensors. This one is steady and 100% accurate. Other cheap sensors fluctuate a lot and give unstable reading.

Ping))) is King!
You can mess around with inexpensive ultrasonic sensors all you want... when you get tired of all the quirks, you'll come back to the Ping time and time again. It's expensive by comparison, but we'll worth it.
