This device is a switching regulator, also known as a switched-mode power supply or DC-to-DC converter, and it boasts a typical efficiency between 80% and 95%. The regulator can handle input currents up to 5 A, with the available output current being a function of the input voltage, output voltage, and efficiency.
This regulator is part of the U3V50x family, which includes various adjustable-output versions. The U3V50ALV specifically offers an output range of 4 V to 12 V. It features built-in protections such as reverse-voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal shutdown, and an under-voltage lockout that activates when the input voltage falls below 2.5 V. The no-load quiescent current varies depending on the difference between the input and output voltages.
The compact design of the regulator includes two mounting holes for secure installation and multiple connection options through smaller holes for header pins and larger holes for terminal blocks.
