The Pololu Adjustable 9-30V Step-up Voltage Regulator U3V50AHV is a robust and efficient device designed to elevate input voltages as low as 2.9 V to a selectable output voltage ranging from 9 V to 30 V. This regulator is part of the switching regulator family, also known as switched-mode power supplies or DC-to-DC converters, and it boasts an efficiency rate between 80% and 95%. The regulator can handle input currents up to 5 A, with the available output current being contingent upon the input voltage, output voltage, and efficiency.
This model features built-in protections, including reverse-voltage protection, over-current protection, thermal shutdown, and an under-voltage lockout that activates when the input voltage falls below 2.5 V. The regulator's compact design includes two mounting holes for secure installation and offers multiple options for electrical connections, such as solderless breadboards and terminal blocks.
The output voltage can be adjusted using a multimeter and a light load, with the potentiometer allowing for fine-tuning. However, care must be taken to avoid exceeding the input voltage relative to the output setting, as this could result in permanent damage. The regulator is not intended for frequent adjustments, and the potentiometer lacks physical end stops, allowing for continuous rotation.
