The Pololu 380:1 Micro Metal Gearmotor LP 6V w/ 12 CPR Encoder, Side Connector is a compact brushed DC motor featuring a robust metal gearbox with a cross section of 10×12 mm. It is equipped with a 9 mm long, 3 mm diameter D-shaped output shaft. This gearmotor integrates a two-channel incremental Hall effect encoder, which detects the rotation of a magnetic disk on the motor shaft's rear protrusion. The encoder provides a resolution of 12 counts per revolution of the motor shaft, with the ability to calculate the gearbox output by multiplying this count by the gearbox reduction factor.
The encoder is fitted with a 6-pin JST SH-style male connector, compatible with corresponding cables and connector boards. The Side Connector orientation is perpendicular to the motor, ensuring versatile mounting options. The motor terminals are accessible via red and black wires when used with appropriate cables, allowing for bidirectional operation by alternating the power polarity.
The sensors are powered through designated pins, with Vcc ranging from 2.7 V to 18 V. The quadrature outputs deliver digital signals that indicate motor direction and speed, with built-in hysteresis to prevent signal errors. The motor operates at a low power of 6V with precious metal brushes, offering a no-load performance of 36 RPM and 40 mA, and a stall extrapolation of 2.9 kg⋅cm at 0.36 A.
