The Pololu 4.4:1 Metal Gearmotor 25Dx63L mm HP 6V w/ 48 CPR Encoder is a high-power, 6 V brushed DC motor integrated with a 4:1 metal spur gearbox. It features a 48 CPR quadrature encoder on the motor shaft, providing 211.2 counts per revolution of the gearbox’s output shaft. The gearmotor is cylindrical with a diameter of just under 25 mm, and its D-shaped output shaft measures 4 mm in diameter, extending 12.5 mm from the gearbox face plate.
This gearmotor is part of a versatile range of cylindrical brushed DC gearmotors, available in various gear ratios and motor power levels. All models share the same 25 mm diameter case and 4 mm diameter gearbox output shaft, facilitating easy interchangeability to meet different design requirements. The motor and encoder can be purchased separately, and versions without the encoder are also available.
The gearmotor employs a two-channel Hall effect encoder to detect the rotation of a magnetic disk on the motor shaft's rear protrusion. The quadrature encoder offers a resolution of 48 counts per revolution of the motor shaft. The encoder's A and B outputs are square waves, approximately 90° out of phase, indicating motor speed and direction. The Hall sensor requires an input voltage between 3.5 and 20 V and draws a maximum of 10 mA.
