The Robot Power Scorpion XXL Dual Channel R/C Motor Controller 20A, 6-28V is a versatile and high-performance motor controller designed for small to medium-sized mobile robots, including competition firefighting robots, sumo robots, and robotic combat applications. It is capable of handling robots weighing up to 90 pounds, provided the motor current limits are adhered to. Additionally, the Scorpion XXL is suitable for various non-robotic applications such as controlling lights and hydraulic valves.
This motor controller offers a continuous current of 20A per channel, with a peak capacity of 45A, and can be enhanced to 25A with fan cooling. It operates within a battery voltage range of 6.0V to 28V, ensuring compatibility with a wide array of power sources. The device features full current and temperature limiting, making it highly resistant to damage.
The Scorpion XXL includes two R/C input leads and a pin header for steering or throttle control, with fully reversible H-bridge channels. It offers a range of control options, including channel mixing, separate channel control, and a flip control feature that reverses controls if the robot is overturned. The controller is equipped with indicator LEDs for speed and direction, as well as a status LED for R/C signal monitoring.
Additional features include a brake/coast option at zero speed, linear or exponential steering response, and a LiPo battery cutoff option. The integrated switching style 5V regulator supports newer 2.4GHz radio receivers without the need for jumpers. A receiver battery eliminator circuit is standard, providing up to 200 mA of current at 5V to the RC receiver and other electronics.
The Scorpion XXL incorporates a failsafe mechanism that shuts off motors if the R/C signal is lost, and a calibration function to synchronize with the radio or signal source, with settings stored in EEPROM. The FLASH-based microcontroller allows for software upgrades via an in-circuit programming header. An optional plastic enclosure is available to protect the unit from environmental factors and to mount a cooling fan.
