The Seeedstudio Grove Thermal Imaging Camera MLX90621 BAB 16x4 IR Array w/ 60° FOV is an infrared thermal imaging module equipped with a 16x4 resolution array temperature sensor, known as MLX90621. This device is capable of detecting the temperature of an object with a remarkable accuracy of ±1°C ±3% * |To-Ta|. Here, To represents the measured surface temperature of the object, while Ta signifies the temperature of the sensor itself.

The module employs the I2C protocol to procure low-resolution images from the camera. The camera's field of view (FOV) is 60° x 16°, and it has a temperature measurement range of -40 to 300 °C. The sensor's working temperature, or Ta value, ranges from -40° to 85°.

The camera operates by detecting the infrared radiation emitted by all objects. It gathers this radiation information from the objects and generates an electronic image based on the temperature difference information. The principle is simple: the hotter an object is, the more infrared radiation it produces. This module can be connected to a Microcontroller Unit (MCU) using the I2C interface, but it requires an MCU that has over 20000 bytes of RAM to drive the camera.

The camera's specifications encompass a resolution of 16x4, FOV of 60° x 16°, a measuring range of -40 to 300 °C, a refresh rate of 0.5 to 64 Hz, an I2C interface, a voltage of 3.3 - 5 V, and a current of approximately 18 mA.

Please note that the accuracy of the temperature detection is ±1°C ±3% |To-Ta|, where To is the measured surface temperature of the object, and Ta is the temperature of the sensor itself.*
