The Seeedstudio Grove Thermal Imaging Camera MLX90641 BCB 16x12 IR Array w/ 55° FOV is an infrared thermal camera equipped with a 16 x 12 array of thermal sensors, specifically the MLX90641. This device is capable of detecting the temperature of distant objects with a center area accuracy of ±1 °C and an average accuracy of ±1.5 °C. The camera utilizes the I2C protocol to obtain low-resolution images.
The camera's field of view (FOV) is 55° x 35°, allowing it to capture a wider area. It also boasts a broad temperature measurement range, from -40 to 300 °C. The I2C Grove interface facilitates easy communication with a microcontroller unit (MCU).
The camera comes fully calibrated, simplifying the setup process. However, it requires an MCU with over 20000 bytes of RAM to operate effectively. The Arch Mix is suggested as an appropriate MCU for controlling the camera.
This thermal imaging camera is versatile and can be utilized for a variety of applications. These include high-precision non-contact temperature measurements, microwave ovens, intrusion or movement detection systems, temperature sensing for residential, commercial, and industrial building air conditioning, industrial temperature control of moving parts, and visual infrared thermometers.
