The SparkFun PIR Breakout - 1uA (EKMB1107112) is designed for detecting motion in compact spaces, optimized for small movements, making it ideal for battery-powered applications. This breakout board features a Panasonic® EKM-series Passive Infrared (PIR) sensor, which is renowned for its low standby current consumption of just 1µA. The sensor does not provide specific distance measurements but instead detects infrared light emitted by objects within its field of view, activating a signal upon motion detection.
This PIR sensor is particularly suitable for applications such as automated lighting control, security systems, home and building automation, and various Internet of Things (IoT) devices. Its low-profile design, with a height of 10.9mm, offers significant space savings compared to standard models, making it suitable for constrained design environments. The sensor includes a lens to create multiple detection zones, an optical filter to block non-infrared light, pyroelectric sensing elements, electromagnetic shielding, and an impedance converter to produce an electrical signal.
The sensor provides digital output across 32 zones, with a detection range of up to 5 meters and a detection area of 90° x 90°.
