The AndyMark PicoBox Duo is a versatile gearbox specifically engineered for FIRST Tech Challenge teams, offering a robust solution for fine-tuning the output speed and torque of various mechanisms and drivetrains. This gearbox is designed to integrate seamlessly with other building systems familiar to these teams, featuring a base 16 mm center-to-center hole pattern. The reversible flanges maintain this pattern, and the gearbox utilizes a consistent plate design for both input and output, allowing for flexible configurations such as mounting the motor and output shaft on the same side.
This single reduction gearbox accommodates a double motor input, utilizing durable steel 32DP gears. It is compatible with two NeveRest Classic gearmotors, providing a robust steel 6 mm D shaft for output. The motors can be installed on either side of the output shaft or positioned side by side with the output shaft at one end of the gearbox. The kit includes three gear ratio options, enabling users to experiment and understand the impact of gear ratio changes on driving performance.
The PicoBox Duo requires the use of NeveRest gearboxes as part of the motor input assemblies and is compatible with NeveRest Classic 40 and 60 motors. Proper maintenance involves the application of grease for optimal operation and longevity. A recommended 'run in' period involves operating the gearbox continuously for 30 minutes without grease to allow the gear teeth to wear in, followed by periodic greasing to ensure smooth operation.
