The Pololu 6V 3.3A Step-Down Voltage Regulator D30V30F6 is a synchronous buck voltage regulator that efficiently converts higher input voltages up to 45 V to a lower 6 V output. This type of regulator, known as a switching regulator or DC-to-DC converter, offers superior efficiency compared to linear voltage regulators, particularly when there is a significant difference between the input and output voltages. The device is capable of supporting continuous output currents ranging from 2.5 A to 4 A, with the actual available output current being inversely proportional to the input and output voltages.
The regulator boasts a fixed output voltage of 6 V with a 4% accuracy rate and demonstrates a typical efficiency between 80% to 95%. This efficiency varies based on factors such as input voltage, output voltage, and load. It features a very low dropout voltage and operates at a switching frequency of approximately 700 kHz under heavy loads. To enhance light load efficiency, the regulator includes a power-save mode that reduces the switching frequency. Additionally, it has a low quiescent current.
Other notable functionalities include an enable input with a precise cutoff threshold for disconnecting the load, which also puts the regulator into a low-power state with minimal power draw. The "power good" output signals when the regulator is unable to maintain the output voltage adequately. The device also employs frequency spread spectrum operation to reduce peak EMI noise and is equipped with under-voltage lockout protection, a soft-start feature to limit inrush current, and integrated reverse-voltage protection, over-current and short-circuit protection, as well as over-temperature shutoff for safety.
The compact dimensions of the regulator facilitate easy integration into various applications. It also includes mounting holes to accommodate #2 or M2 screws for secure installation. The regulator is designed with six connections for power good, enable, input voltage, output voltage, and two grounds, which are compatible with standard prototyping arrangements.
