  • Detects 3D magnetic fields
  • Low power & high precision
  • Configurable magnetic range
  • Integrated angle calculation
  • Easy Qwiic integration

The SparkFun Linear Qwiic 3D Hall-Effect Sensor TMAG5273 is a sophisticated magnetic field sensor capable of detecting the presence, strength, and direction of magnetic fields in three dimensions. This device is particularly suited for a variety of applications, including magnetic proximity detection and the sensing of doors and windows, as well as in mobile rotor and control systems. It features a compact design with a standard 1 x 1 inch. Qwiic breakout for ease of integration.

The sensor, developed by Texas Instruments, offers a configurable linear magnetic range and incorporates TIs integrated angle calculation engine (CORDIC), complete with gain and offset adjustment, allowing for versatile use across different scenarios. It also includes magnetic tamper detection and configurable wake-up/threshold settings that can initiate interrupts either through the I2C interface or via a dedicated interrupt pin.

Designed for efficiency, the sensor boasts a low power consumption rate in Active Mode, with an even lower rate in sleep mode, and delivers high precision with typical accuracy. It includes a Disable button, which is connected to a pin of the same name, and features an onboard temperature sensor for additional functionality.

Communication with the sensor is facilitated through the I2C protocol. The device is part of the Qwiic Connect System, which features an array of I2C sensors, actuators, shields, and cables designed to streamline prototyping. The system utilizes a common 1mm pitch, 4-pin JST connector to minimize PCB space requirements and prevent connection errors due to its polarized design. For those who prefer a more traditional setup, the I2C pins are also accessible via standard 0.1in.-spaced pins.

Please note that the sensor should be handled with care to avoid damage or malfunction.
