The SparkFun Soil Moisture Sensor w/ Screw Terminals is a simple breakout for measuring the moisture in soil and similar materials. The soil moisture sensor is pretty straightforward to use. There are two large exposed pads that function as probes for the sensor, acting as a variable resistor.

If there is more water in the soil, it means there will be a better conductivity between the pads, resulting in a lower resistance and a higher SIG out. This version includes a 3-pin screw terminal pre-soldered to the board for easy wiring and setup.
